Mission:
MusicalSolutions aims to promote arts approaches to learning and community building in school and Out-of-School Time settings.
History:
Gretchen Elise Iversen founded MusicalSolutions in 2004. Collaborators include the Cambridge 21st Century Community Learning Centers Partnership Grant, the Academy of the Pacific Rim, local teaching artists Marcus Santos, Kimani Lumsden, Pedro Ito, and Walnut.
Director Bio:
Gretchen Elise combines 15 years of service at all
levels of Out-of-School Time programming with 15 years of experience
performing
and composing
music. Gretchen began work with children and youth as a gymnastics
teacher and choreographer. Gretchen began developing her performing
and recording
career
as a vocalist after graduating magna cum laude in Sociology and
German Studies from Brown University.
Gretchen taught in Out-of-School Time programs for 5 years in Berlin, Germany. In the States, she developed arts-based approaches to conflict resolution and community-building while heading an Afterschool Program in Cambridge, MA for 7 years. She branched out to lead peers in a city-wide Afterschool program improvement initiative, promoting a multi-arts, democratic approach to education. Gretchen Elise is a currrent Master's Student Candidate in the Arts in Education program at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
